VTLP Tax Education

The Alaska Business Development Center provides tax education to low income and English-as-a-second-language taxpayers through the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC).

Tax education helps individuals understand their rights and responsibilities as a taxpayer and works to prevent or correct common misunderstandings about tax laws.  It also assists with planning for future years.

Tax education services are provided directly to rural taxpayers by volunteers who travel to the villages and work one on one with residents.  This allows the taxpayers to ask specific questions that relate to their individual situation.   Rural residents can receive information and educational pamphlets on the following topics.

• How to Make Tax Withholding Work for You
• Getting to Know Your Tax Forms
• Getting to Know Your Tax Return
• Understanding IRS Dependent Laws
• If You Owe
• Estimated Tax Payments
• Injured or Innocent Spouse

Information on other topics such as Earned Income Tax Credit, filing status, and estimated tax payments can be received through the Anchorage office.
